I am an artist based in Twickenham South West London, specialising in oil and mixed media on canvas. My work is a view into interiors of the past - the paintings a connection with those places which mean a lot to us, but are left behind. My love of retro design from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's is evident throughout the work, and re-creating it gives me a reassuring sense of nostalgia.
I like to work experimentally with a variety of techniques and media in a painting, building up areas of paint , string and wax encaustic. I'll re-create a wallpaper of 50 years ago by using motifs from old ceramics. A teacup design will be enlarged and the colours altered to transform it into a new design. My work also plays with perspective: A table is painted to create a troubling flatness, whilst background patterns are built-up thickly to give the illusion of depth. I enjoy using dramatic and sculptural plants in my paintings too, they offer something live, even a little human to the image, and are a good contrast to the stillness of the settings.
I sell through London based galleries, and am available for private commissions. Please use the contacts page to find out more, or to outline any commission ideas you may have.
