I am a painter working in Twickenham, South West London specialising in oil and mixed media on canvas. I take inspiration from the local area, and enjoy re-creating the plants and wildlife I find in Bushy and Richmond Park or along the Thames riverside.
I am influenced by art and design from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s and collect ceramics from this period. I take motifs from pottery and alter the scale and colours to create retro wallpaper patterns and rug designs. The rooms I paint are part imagined and partly the places I knew as a child. With a parent in the services, I had lived in 13 houses by the time I was 5 years old, and find it satisfyingly nostalgic to re-visit these rooms through painting; to get a sense of the lives that were lived in these spaces.
I specialised in Fine Art Sculpture at UWE Bristol and worked in animation and graphics before moving into teaching. Now I work as an artist and offer creative workshops in painting, ceramics and sculpture to adults and children. In my own work I use paint, wax encaustic and string to build up sculpted areas in my paintings. I produce quality work and undertake commissions.
